USA Today Summer Books

USA Today has posted a list of summer titles to look out for. Of course, I'm mentioning it because Acacia: The War with the Mein is one of them! Actually, it gets singled out as one of few "Hot Choices" on the list. I found the online version HERE. It took me a minute to figure out how to navigate through the lists, but once you click on the arrows on Michael Chabon's book it's actually quite easy to scroll through the titles.

David,

Great link, thank you.

Too, first time I've read anything of ACACIA, and, man, the prose are just brilliant. Getting super excited for this release.

Hey Drew,

Thanks for that. I went around to several stores looking for a copy of it, only to find a bunch of freeones sitting right here on campus at Colorado College. So I grabbed one.

Acacia actually had a prominent display on the page. Very happy about it, and great that the online sight can get the excerpt to people.

David,

yeah, just soaked up the excerpt. loving more with each re-read

and, talking, excerpts. I was glad to see the sight provided excerpts from a lot of the books releasing this summer. very cool.

Drew,

Awesome. By the way, the book gets better as the pages pass. At least, I think so…

And, yes, it's cool to get a glimpse of some of the summer's "hot" titles. I'm a little ambivalent about that because I know for a fact that there will be many other wonderful books that didn't get a mention. Also, some of the books in the round up are painfully commercial, celebrity type things.

But I also got alerted to a few titles that I want to keep an eye on. And checking out the excerpts only fuels that.

Hi David,

I normally just browse the site as I'm a little shy about commenting on author blogs, but I just had to say I really enjoyed the excerpts on Acacia. Scott Oden has been all excited about the book and now I can see why. :)

Megumi,

Thanks for stopping by - and for speaking up! Please do so whenever you like. And thanks for liking Acacia so far. I know you're an aspiring writer too, so I don't mind saying the hard work is worth it when people are kind enough to read your work and respond to it.

All the best on that trilogy you're writing!

David,
I'm one of the lucky people who got an Advance Reader's Copy- and I have to say that I can't wait til "The war with the Mein" hits the UK so my friends can get their own copies! (they're all ogling mine!)
I can understand why it's on their list. It's a fantastic book!

Hey Joe,

Thanks for writing. I love the Cookie Monster theme on your blog! Couldn't help smiling. Glad you're liking the book, and thanks also for being the first person to sign in to my Forum! Man, that thing was only up for a few minutes before you got there. I love the question you asked, of course, but I'll have to leave it others to answer...

Stay in touch.

I'm glad you like the theme, David! I've got my fingers crossed to have the Acacia review up there within the week.
As for the forum- it's been very well set up. I hope you'll be chiming in with your two cents once it gets going. :)

Geez, go away for a few days and someone rearranges the furniture. :)

Is the forum because of us long winded commentators? So your blog won't tip over from the weight? *g* I like the new blog color, easy on the eyes.

Constance,

Truth is this whole new website/forum thing happened very quickly. I'm not on top of it yet and haven't announced it. I've been a bit buried the last few days. I'm climbing out now, though. I will make amends tomorrow...

Jo,

I've posted my first responses on the Forum today. It's easy, and a bit addictive... I'll have to keep an eye on myself or I'll end up spending too much time there.

Constance,

I always welcome your comments. Of course, the Forum could be new lands for you to conquer...

Marlon,

Thanks for dropping in. Glad to hear you survived a close encounter with Salman Rushdie.

Things are good, sir. Acacia is chugging toward publication. My new website rocks. People are even talking on my Forum! My family is healthy. I've got a job. We're moving to the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas and hoping to get some dogs. I'm going to get back into whitewater kayaking again. Oh, and I have another book contracted...

Things are very good. I'm thankful daily.
