The Detective Cat

Does this guy look slick or what? He's called The Detective Cat and he's one of several of my daughter's new prints, available for viewing at Maya Calypso Durham Talks.

I don't know about you, but I want to know this guy's story. He kinda looks like he's working undercover or something...

How wonderfully surreal.

She's telling a story with her picture. That's what good art does, tell us something. That we may or may not understand the narrative thrust does not belie the fact that she understands there is more to art than the surface image/words/music and she puts those layers in her work.

It's almost as if SOMEONE taught her about art and meaning.

That is fantastic! Maya's art has moved on an order or two. I'm awestruck.

Yep. There is a story going on there, so many little details to make you wonder... I can't say that I'm the SOMEONE that taught her about art. I can say we've always supported her, but most of what she comes up with she does so on her own...

Love the added touch of the fishbone necklace. It's details like that that make the artwork outstanding. Tell Maya her work is wonderful. :)

Thanks, Constance. You know, I asked Maya if she knew that she was suggesting a story and including lots of interesting details.

She said, "Yeah."

Well, you know, kids learn more by watching than by telling. I'm shocked - shocked I tell you - by the things Boo comes up with. I just look at her and say "Where did you learn that?"

Then I realize I'm just a bad role model.

Will Smith's character in the movie I, Robot. I'd know Detective "Spoon" anywhere. :)

The background's pretty cool, too, the way she angled everything and shows some perspective. Thanks for sharing this!

Yeah, I can see a bit of Will Smith in that cat, now that you mention it...
