Art Show No. 2
Just a heads up; my daughter, Maya, has her second art show up on her blog now.
Here's a sample...
Now, would you mess with the winged red fox? I wouldn't, and I wouldn't advise it. My advice: don't mess with the winged red fox!
Man, it's a good show. Eight years old she is. Check out the rest here.

What gets me everytime is the wonderful DETAIL. The stripes, the patterns, the lines of the wings...I'm almost 30 and WISH I could draw like that!
Hi Meghan,
Yeah, she's got a lot of patience. (More than me.) She loves those details. Takes pride in them. I'd like to think that it has something to do with the fact that they don't watch commercial television. We don't own a video game console. We do watch plenty of movies on dvd AND play computer (pc) games, though, but they just haven't been taught to have short attention spans.
So what do my kids do instead? They play. They read. They draw! They're happy spending time on the details...
It's kinda cool.
I like the curlicues in the lines. It reminds me of Mayan or Aztec-style drawing. Ha, Mayan ... inadvertent pun.
Andrea
Hi Andrea,
Thanks for that. And thanks for posting a response on Maya's blog, too!
David,
Your daughter is amazing! Maybe a writer/illustrator collaboration in the future?
You are right on about the TV and how imaginative play can make a huge difference for a child's development.
And... not to mention having to wonderfully creative and talented parents to emulate!
Be well,
Gerry
Hi Gerry,
Thanks and good to hear from you! Perhaps, just perhaps... we'll be in your part of the world for an extended visit soon. I'll let you know when we know.
Stay warm! (He says from Fresno, where the temps will be in the mid-seventies today...)
