Publication Day

That would be today.

The Other Lands (Acacia, Book 2) is finally available, hopefully marching out of stores all around the country. I hope that means readers will be picking it up and falling back into the Known World - or that they'll decide to give Acacia: The War with the Mein a try, knowing that if they like it there are quite a few hundreds of pages now to be read - and that the end is in sight!

It goes without saying that I would very much like you to buy one and/or to spread the word about the book. They make great presents, you know! I know it's no small thing to hope that you'll put down your 20-some dollars for a new hardcover, but there's really only two reasons I hope you do.

One is that I believe there's a lot to be found in the book, and I know I worked very hard to make it surprising and thought provoking and engaging. Two is that I want very much to be able to continue to write books, and to be able to focus more and more of my time on doing so. The only way that happens in our market economy, though, is if people BUY my books. Reading them is what matters to me; them being PURCHASED is what matters to my publishers and the outlets that stand between you and I.

All right, that's the end of my hard sell. Now I'll just try to remember how fortunate I am, and be very pleased my characters and stories are out there yet again.

Best of luck David, although luck isn't really required, Hannibal was fantastic, War with the mein was brilliant and im most certain Other lands will follow suit.

Cant wait to get my copy.

Love, light and peace.

Picked mine up yesterday and got through chapter 1 on the walk up to work from my parking lot this morning (sorry, last night my football team was on TV which doesn't happen very often in this market).

Out of curiosity, who wrote the summary at the beginning?

I'll gladly support your corner of the market economy. I don't want to end up reading books written by the State!

Kudos on the release. I'm looking forward to spending the coming weekend in a far foreign land...

Congratulations, David. I'm buying my copy this weekend. The timing is perfect; Friday is payday!

Kate,

I wrote the summary. It's the type of thing readers might expect someone editorial to do, but most of the time the writers themselves crank out stuff like that.

Thanks, everyone, for the kind wishes. Much appreciated.

Jim, all the best with your upcoming new one also!

I'm off to my local independent bookstore to get one this afternoon! Glad my boss is out of town, 'cause I'm gonna be taking some loooong book-reading lunches.

Thanks, now I know how much weight to attribute to some of its characterizations.

Mary, don't rush out to the store yet. I'll drop you an email requesting your new address. Then we'll get something in the mail to you. ;)

David,
I hit 50 next week and although the wife has some secret plans for the evening - I plan to pick up the book and spend most of the day ploughing through it. Can't think of a better way to spend the day (unless it involves playing beach volleyball with a select group of hollywood actresses!)

Nick,

Very glad to hear you're looking forward to the book. I hope you enjoy it, and I wish you the best as you turn 50. That said, feel free to put down the novel in the event of such a volleyball event. You could easily come back to it later. ;)

Erika,

Thanks so much. And thanks for your kind words over on WHATEVER!

Just ordered mine from Amazon this morning. I'm knee-deep in another series at the moment, so I'll have to wait a little while longer before I can dig into The Other Lands, but I *loved* Acacia and want to support your writing so you can keep doing more. :)

Ahem.

I'd like the next one now, please.

(Will be re-reading to solidify my thoughts & then reviewing for Tor.com again, so watch that space.)
