What Do You Think Of This?
It's Le Pre aux Clercs cover for the French edition of The Sacred Band. I don't mind admitting, I'm loving the full-on aerial dragon battle feel of it.
Ah, Mena, my princess...
The artwork is by Didier Graffet, who also did the art for the first two books.

Is that a spoiler or artist's liberty?
Um... I don't quite think it's either. Is this a scene of things that take place in the book? Yeah. But I don't think that makes it a spoiler. It's not like it gives away what happens. It hopefully just teases with the notion that there are aerial battles in the book. That shouldn't be much of a surprise, though...
Are there liberties? Yes, there are. This is by no means an exact version of anything. But still, it captures the flavor of at least a fragment of what's within the pages.
Gorgeous, kinetic, reptilian, superb.
Thanks Robert! That's a nice combination of words to suit a nice combination of brush strokes.
I like the art, it's very gripping. It makes me think the book is all about battles though and not the large scope, culturally rich series Acacia is.
David, I hear you. My publisher struggled with that for a while, really. Fairly recently, they reached out to me for my opinion, saying they kinda wanted to do some dragons, but that they thought maybe the should find something that represents other themes and stuff and the books. They suggested other things they were imagining visualizing.
I totally respect that, but when I imagined those other "themes" visualized I thought they were kinda boring. I said, you know, this time, just do some dragons.
I'm glad they did.
